Two boys were evacuated to Grangefield to live with the Reece family; their names were Jack and Don. In the photograph, which was taken in August 1941 at Grangefield, they are with Leonard Reece. It is believed that their surname was Wilkies.

There were also whole families evacuated to Longlands where they lived in the attics. (See Longlands) Other evacuees lived with the Misses Matthias, Horace Attewell and at Redwick House. The older children helped on the farms.
